Who knew that a penguin had the bite radius of a large shark? Well, who other than Matt Hooper, Quint, and possibly Chief Brody. Smart move by Benchley to make a white shark the villain of the piece. Audiences would have considered it implausible that a penguin was the predator that shredded that little Kintner kid's raft. Interestingly, it makes the Vorpal Bunny from Monty Python and the Holy Grail seem all that much more plausible.
I think Benchley was more fortunate than us in not having the so-called Sisters of Charity as learning leaders!
