When Words Fail Us

Jared Loughner stood Voltaire on his head while grabbing his fifteen minutes of fame yesterday. From reports I've read, the same ones you've seen no doubt, the deaths of innocent people are of little consequence to him as he may not have been able to even comprehend his own actions. The rest of us should be so fortunate.

I was raised in the faith of my father to love the sinner while hating the sin but Loughner's actions yesterday make that very hard to do in the cold light of today. I can't help but wonder what contributing role in this horror might be the responsibility of the televised talking heads who all espouse a hardening of the political arteries by mooting any attempt at a dialogue between differing opinions.

No one, from Keef, Rush, Rach through Billy, and any of the evil imps in between, will feel any sense of ownership for the convergence of warped ideology, flawed personality and inchoate rage Saturday in Arizona, but all will be outraged about it while seeking a scapegoat someplace else. If we're lucky, again we'll escape without learning who's to bless and who's to blame.

"You're lying safe in bed, it was all a bad dream spinning in your head. So here it is, another chance, wide awake you face the day, your dream is over." But our nightmare continues.
