Our daughter was a member in good standing (pun intended) of the Norwich Free Academy Wildcat Marching Band for all four years of high school. We traveled hither and yon for marching band competitions on weekends usually until shortly before Thanksgiving and some form of the band was always supporting the Wildcat football team (though never the soccer or field hockey teams, come to think of it).
She very much enjoyed every moment of it, I suspect the hours of practice somewhat less than the minutes of actual performance but that's show biz, right?
So I'm not quite sure what to make of this CNN website story, Alabama band director tased, arrested after HS football game for refusing to stop performance. If you think the headline is alarming, wait until you read the story.
The band director's attorney deserves at least an honorable mention in the understatement competition, offering this summation, "(it) is a bit much, to tase a gentleman with a stellar reputation."
