Gotta Eat, Don't We?

One of the changes in my house after retirement, accelerated by COVID-19 and the lockdown that helped slow it, is I do a reasonable amount of the grocery shopping by myself now.

For decades, we shopped on weekends and my remarkably organized wife had a list and we trolled the aisles searching for bargains and special offers, but staying true to her list.

Since retirement, we can shop for groceries whenever and wherever we want, and often do. But I tend to do short junkets to our local grocer for fresh fruit, I'm in the middle of a banana-buying and eating binge that I cannot explain and do not understand, as well as yogurt, bakery rolls, and ramen noodle soup.

I collect points for my purchases that I can reinvest in buying gasoline for the car we got in September and when I had the "6,000 Mile" check-up in late March, the odometer had a tick over two thousand miles. Still, I appreciate the points which I even get for my prescriptions of which I have a plethora plus.

I'm not a disciplined shopper. I grab a scanning gun, bring my reusable bags, collect whatever items I have on my mental list, and then wander the aisles waiting for items to jump into the cart or whisper enticements to me to purchase them. It works better than you might imagine.

I'm the proud owner of a jar of hot honey, whatever that is, unopened, and no plans in the immediate future to change that. I have also purchased mango chutney and was very pleased with myself. I tried it on a large number of items that had nothing to do with Indian cuisine with no ill effects. I even purchased a bottle of coconut milk infused with key lime for no other reason than the Harry Nilsson song. I actually drank it all up (and I felt better).

I came across this article and to my surprise and delight was amazed at how many of these tips I am already following. Double coupons all around!
