Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters

I spend a lot of time watching PBS. I'm not sure I can explain why, except the tenor and tone differ from commercial broadcast and cable TV. As far as news and information, it's PBS and NPR mainly because I can do without the hysteria added to the headlines elsewhere. That may be changing. And not for the better.

The amount of the federal budget spent on NPR and PBS represents less than 0.0001%. NPR receives roughly 1% of its funding directly from the federal government, while PBS receives about 15% of its revenues from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

Most of the funds for public media go to local stations. If you're curious about what that amounts to for each of us, it's about ~$1.60 per year, per American. Or about what one of the President's golf tees cost (not including Secret Service protection).

How can you help? Wax outraged on all manner of Social Media platforms because historically that has always worked out so well. Just kidding..

The pen is mightier than the sword.  Contact your congressperson. This isn't a right or left issue; it's about great educational TV for kids and high-quality programming for the rest of us. This is the website PBS has recommended for sending and formatting your message.

And Donate to your local PBS station HERE.

Instead of waiting for 'somebody to do something,' be that somebody yourself today.
